What's ILD and Why should I Care?

ILD: Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) is a measurement of latex foam firmness. ILD is measured by indenting (compressing) a foam sample 25 percent of its original height. The amount of force (in pounds) required to indent the foam is its 25 percent ILD measurement. The more force required, the firmer the foam. Flexible foam ILD measurements range from 10 pounds (super soft) to about 80 pounds (very firm).

A center core of #24 ILD firmness - 5.6" thick - surrounded on each side with 1.1" of #20 ILD firmness. For those who LOVE a soft mattress, this mattress is the Ultimate In Comfort. Although the High Profile Soft Mattress is Soft, because Talalay Talatech Latex Foam ALWAYS tries to get back to its original shape while you are on the mattress (unlike Tempurpedic Memory foam that only returns to its original shape AFTER you get off the mattress). A Center core of #28 ILD firmness - 5.6" thick - surrounded on each side with 1.1" of #24 ILD firmness. People that sleep on their side need a very conforming support system that will evenly distribute their support along the entire length of their body. Too firm of a mattress for a side sleeper will create pressure points in your hip and shoulder. These pressure points will make a person toss and turn during their slumber. Eventually you will fall asleep but will awaken with circulatory issues like their arm falling asleep or their hip bothering them. Most of the time these circulatory issues are followed by lower back pain. The lower back pain is usually because the pressure in your hip will force you to twist your body slightly to relieve the pressure. This twisted sleep position creates the lower back pain.

A Center core of #36 ILD firmness - 5.6" thick - surrounded on each side with 1.1" of #24 ILD firmness. Back Sleepers- Back sleepers can sleep on almost anything level. Most back sleepers enjoy a firm support and prefer a softer more luxurious surface.

A Center core of #40 ILD firmness - 5.6" thick - surrounded on each side with 1.1" of #24 ILD firmness. Stomach sleepers- Stomach sleepers need a very firm support. Too soft of a support system will allow a stomach sleeper’s back to sway down into the sleep system. This sway will kink the lower back and create lower back pain. Normally neck pain follows as your neck starts to get effected by the same downward sway. To prevent this sway you will need an extra firm support.

During the first two years after delivery to the original owner Electropedic will at its option and without charge for labor and material, repair or replace the mattress having a defect in material or workmanship. After the first two years and through the tenth year, repair or replacement will be made at a charge of five percent of the manufacturer's current retail selling price times the total number of years owned. After the tenth year and through the lifetime of the original owner, repair or replacement will be made at sixty percent of the manufacturer's current retail selling price. In all cases, the transportation costs to and from the factory will be borne by the owner. If identical materials are not available at the time of repair or replacement, Electropedic reserves the right to substitute materials of equal quality. This warranty does not cover claims resulting from misuse, abuse, overuse, accident or normal wear and tear. Unsanitary conditions or stains will void this warranty.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that can vary from state to state. In home service is not covered by this warranty. Proof of original purchase is required to process a warranty claim.

Back? Side? Stomach?
How you sleep is important: Side sleepers need firmer pillows and support given a large space gap between the mattress and their ear and shoulder blade. However, the same sleeper may need a plusher mattress to support the hips and shoulders (and associated contours) which exert a lot of pressure on the mattress which could lead to more pressure points.

If you sleep on your back, you may want to consider a medium firmness pillow to avoid the spine from improperly bending. To prevent back pain, stomach sleepers may need a lower profile or plusher pillow to ensure the neck and spine are in alignment.

Are latex allergies an issue in bedding products?
In the late 1990's, latex allergies became a topic of concern. Publicity revolved around a very small portion of the public exposed to a protein found in natural rubber latex that caused allergic reactions. The majority of these cases involved health-care workers who came in frequent contact with medical products made using a dipped vulcanization product, often produced in third world countries that do not have the stringent GMP manufacturing codes employed in the United States.

Although the process is completely different from ours, Latex International takes action to prevent the potential for allergic reaction. Non-skin contact products, such as mattresses and pillows, that may contain some natural rubber latex, undergo a five stage washing process which removes reaction-causing proteins while enhancing the over quality of the product. The openness of Talalay latex foam cells, allows for thorough washing.

Complaints for allergic reactions to natural rubber latex are monitored by the FDA. To our knowledge, there has never been a single complaint over our more than 28 years of experience stemming from the natural rubber found in our mattresses and pillows. Our products have been tested by outside facilities and are shown to be inherently hypoallergenic for sufferers of mold, mildew or bacterial allergies. What is latex?
By definition, latex is a rubber particle suspended in water. There are 2 types; NR or natural rubber latex and SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) or man made latex. All latex is either a blend of the two or 100% natural latex.

Latex International performs very stringent durability testing to compare its latex to competitive materials. The following two tests illustrate our superiority to imported Talalay, Dunlop process, and 100% natural latex.

Compression Set Test:
This test simulates the effect of body impressions on the latex after a person lies on the bed for extended periods of time. Latex mattress samples are clamped to 50% of their original thickness for 22 hours at 158 ° F. When removed, the percent loss in thickness is measured. Higher values indicate a higher propensity for the product to take a body impression over time. LI’s Talatech® latex consistently outperforms imported latex.

Impact Test:
This test is used to simulate the effect on the latex when a person continuously gets on and off the bed over extended periods of time. A block of latex is tested for ILD (firmness) and then placed in a testing machine where a weight is dropped on the latex repeatedly for 24 hours. The product is then removed from the machine and allowed to recover for 24 hours. ILD is again measured and recorded. Higher loss values indicate a higher propensity for the material to soften over time due to mechanical breakdown of the product. LI latex consistently recovers better, with less loss.

How is latex different from memory foam? How is Latex more Breathable than memory foam?
Heat Dissipation
Your body is at 98.6 degrees. Room temperature is at the bottom 70's. You need about 25 degrees less temperature to air cool your body. If the mattress does not allow for heat dissipation your body can heat up the mattress to your body temperature. We quilt the Latexpedic mattress with 3/8" heat dissipation quilting so you cannot heat up the mattress. One of the defects of Memory Foam is that your body lies directly on the memory cells - there is no "air gap" and your body can heat up the mattress to your body temperature.
